Abstract
Digital transformation has emerged as a critical driver of
competitiveness and efficiency for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs),
particularly in emerging economies like India. With the rapid adoption of
digital technologies such as cloud computing, enterprise resource planning
(ERP) systems, digital payments, data analytics, and e-commerce platforms, SMEs
are increasingly reshaping their operational processes. This study examines the
impact of digital transformation on the operational performance of SMEs in
India. Using a conceptual and empirical framework, the research analyzes how
digital adoption influences cost efficiency, productivity, operational
flexibility, and service quality. The findings suggest that digital
transformation significantly enhances operational performance, though
challenges such as financial constraints, lack of digital skills, and
cybersecurity concerns continue to limit its full potential. The study offers
practical implications for SME managers and policymakers to foster digital readiness
and sustainable growth.
